Tonight is the night I nuke Debian Sarge off the laptop in favor of Ubuntu. Wish me luck, and I'll see you on the flipside!

Victor is still loving his computer. I have started ripping some of the "102 childrens songs" boxed set we bought a few months ago the hard drive. He can now open XMMS[1], and play/pause/ff/rew tracks. I continue to be amazed at how quickly he learns this stuff.
In TuxPaint[2], he can now select different colors and tools, and has started exploring tool options. There's a "Stamp" tool with dozens and dozens of stamps. He made a very pretty field of sedans and trucks the other day :) Parents, go check the features out (nudge nudge Celeste, Chandra, and Oddly). I wish I had started him on it earlier. Once I figure out a good way to network this box (it sits in the corner of our living room), I will automate uploads of his artwork to the internet and possibly syndicate him to LJ :D
He's also starting to learn the arrow keys, and today successfully did his first (intentional) doubleclick. My litle geek is coming along nicely- I'll have him parsing logs and writing shell scripts by next week.
Everything else about today has sucked, but somehow this evens that all out.

So it turns out my linux.com article not only gets me a hundred bucks, but it ALSO got me a recruitment email from *Google*. Man, is that tempting!
For being a geek!
...I just splurged like my honey suggested.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, AZ license plate: UIDZERO is on order for me.
Rawk.
